Quality Field Inspector

Shimmick is seeking a highly talented Quality Field Inspector to be based in Chattanooga, TN. This challenging position will focus on day to day construction activities related to the Chickamauga Dam Project; a new 110-foot by 600-foot lock located downstream of Chickamauga Dam. This project is being performed by Shimmick for the US Army Corps of Engineers (Client) and as such any applicants must be able to pass security and background checks. Shimmick's National Division operates throughout the central and eastern U.S. Comprised of legacy companies, such as Morrison Knudsen, Washington Group, and others, this division has decades-long history of delivering successful transportation, transit, mining infrastructure, and water resources projects. In addition to state DOTs and transit agencies, the National Division has delivered more than $5 billion in work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, primarily in the water resources (dams, reservoirs, locks, levees) sector. The National Division is delivering Oklahoma Turnpike Authority's first build-finance project, the $260 million Gilcrease Expressway project in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs concrete finishing inspections with limited oversight.
  • Comfortable working from a manlift, in a bosun chair, within confined spaces, and from heights.
  • Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Works under general supervision.
  • May assist with training entry-level employees.
  • Responsible for monitoring conformance to quality, performance, specifications, and/or code requirements by performing inspection duties.
  • Performs daily field inspections and maintains inspection records.
  • Participates in punch lists, testing, and commissioning.
  • Tracks quality assurance progress.
  • Provides input to documentation for area and equipment turnovers.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Must have at least one of:
    • Concrete Field Testing Technician, Grade I
    • Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician, Grade I or II
    • Concrete Construction Inspector, Level II

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous marine construction experience.
  • Previous experience working on a USACE (US Army Corp of Engineers) project.
  • Concrete inspection and concrete testing experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products; including Excel and Microsoft Word.

  • The salary range for this position is between $32.00 - $39.00 per year depending on experience and/or education.
